Variable number is sometimes wrong?? #17

Can't remember which effect this happened on, but on one of them the variable number used to differentiate effects of the same type was wrongly set to 1 instead of 0 for some obscure reason.

The var names used in the code itself were correct!!???

Need more info on how to repro
