Hi All -

Thank you to those that could join us live on the NASA Openscapes Champions Call 3. The agenda Google Doc is so full of great content from you sharing your resource links, open communities you’re part of, datasets you’d like to access in the cloud, and your thoughts and questions about all of this! The NASA mentors are reviewing and responding to the questions raised in the doc here. We will have more to share at the start of Call 4.

The NASA Openscapes Champions curriculum is evolving as we learn from you all and the mentors what support is needed to scaffold a transition from the download model to the cloud. A big highlight for us was reworking the Call 3 lesson on coding strategies with the NASA Openscapes Mentors. They’re developing so many user-focused tools and tutorials that help us in our journeys to the cloud. It was so great to be able to highlight just a small portion of that material in Call 3. Any feedback on this or any part of the NASA Openscapes Champions cohort is always welcome.

Goals: We discussed open communities and dove into coding strategies for future us. There was a strong emphasis on non-traditional and collaborative ways to learn new things too.

• Prepare for our NASA Earthdata Cloud Clinic in Call 4; follow instructions in the doc in advance so you’re able to access all the tools
• Join Coworking (optional) May 25. Mentors plan to come to join breakout rooms focused on some of your questions.

A few lines from shared notes in the Agenda doc

• CLIMCAPS on effort: group came up with idea: 3 times a week login, access data, go back out. Get used to this whole different space. Analogy to practicing piano. Seaside Chats - some want more technical and some want more team culture learning
• Any time you have cross-org collaboration you have open collab/ community
• Hearing others ask questions gave me confidence to ask more questions
• Lots of new terms “hadn’t settled yet” - that resonates
• cloud migration learning curve

  • Everything is different, the environment, the languages supported, the file organization/format, the terminologies, the workflow, everything.
