Hi @Openscapes/2022-noaa-afsc-team

Thanks for a great fourth session last Friday. We talked about RMarkdown and supportive communities for R and open data science. Below is a light digest of Call 04.

Our last Cohort Call is next Friday, March 11. Please prepare to present your Pathway on Call 5! This is an opportunity to share and get feedback on work-in-progress, things do not need to be complete or polished. Each team has 5 minutes to share their pathway (3 min present + 2 min Qs).

See you next Friday if not before,

Julie, Megsie, Josh, and Em (@Openscapes/2022-noaa-afsc-assist )

Digest: Cohort Call 04 [ 2022-noaa-afsc ]

CohortCalls folder - contains video recordings and completed agendas

Cohort webpage: https://openscapes.github.io/2022-noaa-afsc/

Goals: ‎We discussed open communities, RMarkdown, and coding strategies for future us.

Task for next time: Continue your Pathway - shifting to "Next Steps", think about Onboarding/Offboarding. Each team has 5 minutes to share their pathway: (3 min present + 2 min Qs).

Co-working times

A few lines from shared notes in the Agenda doc:

  • I've been taking much more time to actually sit and learn some of these tools as of late (Rmarkdown, GitHUB).  Instead of working towards and end, I've incorporated learning why things work instead of "ok, this works" and moving on

    • +1+1+1+1 +1
  • These practices (Rmarkdown + reproducible code) have, more than anything, increased my confidence in my work b/c I'm not worried about changes to the data or code not being fully reflected in the final document. It has also made me more iterative and I can embrace changes to data/code/analysis +1

  •  Someday I will be a good file namer! :) +1+1+1+1+1

  •  Very curious about Quarto, looking forward to test-driving it. +1+1
