Reopening from a different orientation

There appears to be an issue with this method, one which I cannot figure out how to solve.

If the user leaves the app while running, lets the progress finish, and returns to the app in a different orientation, the progress won't be updated and will reflect the last progress known before leaving the app.

ie: User starts progress in portrait then leaves the app until progress has finished, returns to the app in landscape.
