Issue Description

  • No HDMI output despite Elk Audio docs saying a monitor should be connected for initial configuration.
  • Official Raspberry Pi LCD touchscreen will show a few lines of text upon powerup, then the display stops working - despite Elk Audio docs showing a graphic LCD can be attached and used with Elk Audio OS.

Elk Audio OS version

v1.0.0

Raspberry Pi Model

Raspberry Pi 4B, 8GB RAM

How to reproduce

Flash the Elk OS RPi image to an SD card (8GB or 16GB, same result), insert into RPi4
Plug a USB keyboard and HDMI monitor in the RPI 4
Power on the RPI4
Observe that the HDMI monitor says "No Signal"

  • OR -

Connect the official Raspberry Pi LCD touchscreen to the Pi 4 ribbon cable header
Add the Hifiberry DAC2 ADC Pro to the Pi
Connect the LCD touchscreen power connectors to the +5V and GND header on the Hifiberry PCB
Insert the SD card with the Elk OS Image, power up the RPi4
See the first few lines of text on the LCD as the RPi boots up, then a cursor blinking in the upper screen corner
Observe that the screen then seems to 'wash out' and fade to black and shows nothing after that.

Relevant configuration files

Whatever is included in the default image, it fails out of the box.

I’ve not used the official Pi touch screen, but have connected many flavours of HDMI screens to the Pi4.
I am currently using the v1.0.0 image daily with an LCD panel from an unbranded supplier. I am powering it all from a bench power supply and occasionally on startup I will see the exact same behaviour as you with multiple flavours of OS.

If you check on the raspberry pi forums you will see this is an issue which affects Pis running raspian. There are also issues with USB drives disconnecting when mounted.

I am not sure of your exact setup, but the power supply being insufficient is one cause. But it also seems to happen with some power saving settings as well.

I am replying mainly to say I don’t think this is an elkOS specific problem.
