Definitions

To record is to create information which directly represents forces which are sensed at a specific physical location.

A record is a direct representation of forces which have been sensed at a specific location.

Notes

The recording of physical forces is often automated by physical tools. Automated recordings avoid contamination by the creative biases of persons.

Two basic functions are required to create a recording:

• An analog or digital measuring tool must create media which represents dimensionally variable forces.
• The representative media must be stored.
