If you want to contribute to this collection of diagnostic scripts, there are multiple ways to achieve this. If you cannot be bothered to read this, you can just create an issue or a pull request or do whatever you have been up to in order to contribute to this repository. However, if you want decrease the amount of time I spent on maintaining this repository (and in doing so the time your issue/pull request takes to be closed/merged), take a few moments to read and follow these notes.
Awesome! Fork the repository, create a branch on your fork, write code, and create a pull request to merge it back to my repository. Ideally you should check the following points before creating the pull request:
-
Run pylint (with the default preferences) on what you have written and eliminate everything it complains about.
-
Make sure all docstrings are accurate
-
When you add a script or change its behaviour, update the README and the manpage for the script. If there is no manpage yet, create one.
-
Make sure you don’t change the behaviour of all the other scripts unintentionally. This point is especially important when you change anything in the
util
folder.
If you don’t make this effort, I will have to make changes for all these points, which delays the merging process.
Great! Just create an issue. It would be fabulous if you write it elaborate enough such that others can understand what you are meaning. Especially for bugs: Try to say how to reproduce it.
