Could not change the activated python interpreter via the bottom right corner, Select Python Interpreter command, or settings.json

To diagnose what is going on please provide logs from Output > Python Environments. Before collecting the logs, run this command to set the log level, Developer: Set Log Level ... and set the log level to trace. Reload and repo your issue, and share the logs.

It is also likely that updating VS Code to insiders 1.98, and updating the extension to latest 0.3.* might address the issue.
