Unable to select python interpreter

I repeatedly get the "Python Is Not Installed" warning even though I have downloaded python. I have tried reinstalling VS code and python to no avail. What I get from the python output panel is attached.

https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/python/environments#_where-the-extension-looks-for-environments specifies how we perform our search. What OS are you on and how are you installing Python?

You also have some weird output involving Java failing, so I think your system may somehow have Python pointing at Java or maybe installed Jython? Otherwise we don't use Java anywhere, so that error isn't due to us.

My OS is windows 10 and I installed python using the installer from python.org.

That should all be supported, so I think that odd Java error may be the issue.
