Update Open Communities slides for next time.

  • rm pyLadies; add ESIP
  • check Debriefs for Call 4 for suggestions
  • consider incorporating this, from Ady Rios in 2023 Mentors Call 2:

NOAA & NMFS open communities (5 mins) - Adyan Rios
Empowerment & inclusion are tightly linked. Many communities including NOAA employee resource groups contribute to a sense of community and belonging, and offer opportunities for professional development and sharing of ideas across line offices (weather service, Fisheries, etc). Their various efforts are often complementary to open science goals and culture we are aiming for at Fisheries.
So many communities are connected to our network
We can introduce colleagues who want to join
Examples:

  • RGovys: https://rgovys.github.io/
  • Latinos@NOAA ERG
  • Inter-Agency R User Group (Open Science leaders and interested folks across the federal agencies)
  • NMFS R User Group, NE R User Group, SW R User Group, AFSC R User Group
  • Fisheries Information System Coder Professional Specialty Group (share many Open Science practices but more of a dev ops NMFS group)
  • Data Governance Committee (open data across NOAA, each science center has a data governance team)
  • ESIPfed Collaboration areas. Many NOAA Open Science leaders are active in the ESIP collaboration areas (monthly meetings, active slack groups, meet 2x yearly at ESIP meetings)

We (Julie, Stef, Andy) decided not to move the Champions Cohort Folders a,b,c into x_Complete because it causes individual Champions to lose access. No renaming of folders. Leave as is
