This consists of two parts:

ShiftCompare -> workbench; this is required for alpha, so putting milestone for this issue for alpha so that it gets taken care of.
Replace with Improved ShiftCompare (which will have a better name ;-), moving that back into the main visualizers. That's a "try for alpha, but definitely by beta", so the milestone can be backed off if need be, once the above is done.

In fact, our plan for replacing this now depends on #541, so that will definitely happen after alpha.
