Linux based OSs on Astro - what needs to be done? (Sailfish, Ubuntu Touch etc)

What needs to be done for this to be possible, how much of the work done for previous planet devices can be reused (or just other similar "android-ish" devices, e.g. the ones that run Sailfish or PureOS from Librem) ?

I honestly think this would make it a lot more useful.
Unfortunately Android just isn't a good fit for a keyboard device - this is not the fault of Planet, but just the lack of focus from Google and major app suppliers on making sure it works sensibly with keyboards.

Around the same time as this I made a support request to ask for firmware.. realise it's a longshot, since the community of people that have one of these in our hands is pretty small.

I guess we can't build our own custom OS's for this, easily right now (even fully Android ones like Lineage OS)
