<p>
The average employee spends between 21 and 28 hours a week in meetings and this number continues to rise in double-digit percentages. So much time spent in meetings can have a significant impact on work life balance. This is especially true if the meetings are outside of normal working hours. In addition, there can be more dissatisfaction if the time spent in meetings is unproductive. <a href="https://miamiherald.typepad.com/worklifebalancingact/2015/06/how-to-hold-a-better-meeting.html">Here are tips</a> on how your organization can hold better meetings. Our data driven tools can pinpoint where these issues are occurring in your organization.

This report can be used to understand and optimize their collaboration time. By selecting a department on the bar chart, you will see their meeting schedule times encoded in the circles for easy comparison to the overall organization’s meeting times. To revert back to see all orginizations, click any open space on the bar chart.
From this example organization we can see that there are definitely weekend and later evening meetings that could impact team member work/life balance. In fact, all departments have weekend meetings that are similar to average weekday. This is even for customer facing teams like sales and marketing. Another potential issue is that Friday and Saturday evenings have meetings starting at 6pm. For this example of a global organization, Operations is located in China has very little to no overlapping working time with operations collaboration groups, like engineering. Management would be advised to put in place recommended working guidelines and windows for collaboration time. Sales meetings could be later in the day for the East Coast and earlier in the day with the west coast. IT (located in India) would need to be a 24x7 customer service operation as they would need to meet the demands of their working customers. This could be split into two groups, development and customer service. Where development IT engineers could work during the days in India and the service teams could work a night shift.
For tips on how to manage a team across multiple time zones, please refer to this article <a href="https://hbr.org/2014/06/managing-a-team-across-5-time-zones">'Managing a team across 5 time zones' from the Harvard Business Review</a>.
