That sounds rough - 2 hours trying to get something to work and getting nothing in return...
Maybe the documentation can be improved - that's correct. However, many others have downloaded and use this program without issue, so I wouldn't say it's worth 0.
Do you have experience with Node, NPM, or command line programs (CLI)? Learning one or multiple at the same time might be tricky.
Do you have Node.js installed?
What automatically downloads to Appdata?
You need to make your own folder, wherever you'd like, even on Desktop, which you open in the terminal using cd C:\Users\MyUser\Desktop\My_Folder.
That same folder is where you need to create the aforementioned .env file.
