Gene symbol ambiguity #5

Gene symbols are useful but ambiguous. E.g. MAPT (Microtubule-associated protein tau) can mean ENSG00000186868 or ENSG00000277956, such as in hits for MONDO_0005180 (Parkinson disease). TIGA hitlists currently show symbols which appear confusingly as duplicate genes.

ENSG00000276155 is another gene with symbol MAPT. Is there a justifiable, systematic way to merge on a preferred gene among these?
