eMail thread flattener

i find Dom's thread flattener immensely useful when dealing with issues in email threads. See eg.

not only is it useful for reading the thread (particularly when you need to get a good overview of the discussion), but it's very handy for linking to it when you want to send others there.

Could we please provide a fully-supported tool of this kind?

Have we considered maybe using Google groups for this purpose? I know both Google and Mozilla engineers mirror their email lists there, making them much easier to view and respond to.
