What worked for Spring 2016

More ramp-up and workshops at the beginning to educate the team about the project:

  • Git / GitHub
  • Databases
  • Conversations with @r03ert0!
  • Have clear issues to resolve from the beginning
  • How do web applications work
  • Debugging PHP, JavaScript, etc.
    • Console.log from PHP - goes to Terminal
  • Dealing with JSON across DB / server / client

Approaches:

  • Hack sessions where everyone sits down together
  • Maybe just one meeting, though - perhaps a 2 hour session with a focus on getting to work
  • Clear project management - someone needs to review pull requests in a timely fashion

Goals:

  • Real-world experience

Things that might be useful, but weren't:

  • Using a PHP IDE. But it wasn't clear how to connect to the dockerized application.

Things to keep mind:

  • This is done in "spare time" (even if it's for URAP credit)
  • The goal is to provide a "real-world" project experience

Fun ideas:

  • Bring @r03rt0 and @davclark in for a sprint!
  • @jbpoline has a small training grant that could be applied to our training efforts
