Assets are meant to run in a broader ingen environment. Refer to the Rust documentation on workspaces to create a local space and run Ingen packages in tandem.
An asset tracking application. This simple Rust application is a project that uses everything in The Book up to chapter five. It creates a very simple, non-persisting RESTful application that allows its users to:
- create assets
- update an asset
- delete an asset
- get an asset
- get all assets.
Each asset is a struct that consists of only a name
and id
field. The library uses the uuid
package to construct unique IDs.
As we move to chapter 6 of the book - Enums - we may complicate the Asset struct with increasingly specific fields (eg, Asset Typing, etc) This will require better code organization, doubtless.
Much like previous Rust projects we've put together at Foundry, this project is heavily inspired by Jurassic Park. The idea here is that the tracker could be installed and run on small handheld devices, similar to the pads that J-Park employees carried about. The program will ultimately allow users to:
- Register asset (dino) types
- Register asset locations (integrating with a similar Paddock struct)
- Register asset health
- View last checkups and sightings
- Associate assets with other assets
Very possible that this program takes us through the rest of the Book.
