About

forvol is an attempt to bring volume, biomass, taper and other tree-level equations to an open-source R framework. There are a few reasons for this. Most notably is the prevalence of the R language throughout the forestry profession. Many forest biometricians and practitioners use R to do their analysis, and parts of forvol are targeted for their use by facilitating the analysis and development of tree-level equations. Bringing tree-level equations to an open-source framework allows researchers and practitioners to add, change, and easily access the tree-level equations in use. forvol attempts to be as transluscent as possible with the equations it uses by default, and allow users to implement their own equations as needed. Furthermore, R is an operating system agnostic platform, allowing users from Linux, macOS, Windows, and other operating systems to interact with the library successfully.

This library/package is currently under development and by no means fully featured. If you would like a mature volume equation library, please see the National Volume Estimator Library published by the US Forest Service Forest Management Service Center (FMSC).
